INVITATION:
MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS INVITE YOUR FAMILY, FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS TO
AN OUTDOOR PARTY TO HONOR THE DEAD AND CELEBRATE LIFE!!!
HISTORY:
More than 500 years ago, when the Spanish Conquistadors landed in that is now Mexico, they encountered natives practicing a ritual that seemed to mock death. It was a ritual the indigenous people, the olmecs had been practicing at least 3,000 years. Instead of mourning, these festivities focused on the continuity of life and were a way to celebrate and preserve the memories of one's ansestors. A ritual the Spaniards would try unsuccessfully to eradicate.
Dia de los Muertos, or the 'Day of the Dead,' which has its roots in two cultures -- the ancient Aztec customs of Latin America, and the Spanish-Christian observance of All Saints Day on Nov. 1 and All Souls Day on Nov. 2. According to Aztec legend on the Day of the Dead, the dead are released from Mictlan -- the land of the dead -- to visit the living world and to mingle with friends and family.
A ritual known today as El Dia De Los Muertos, or The Day of the Dead
